CHAMOIS:

When hunting the alpine basins for the elusive Chamois, a lot of glassing on the shady rock ledges and outcrops is the norm as we travel the tops or river beds. Hunting these trophies, demands the utmost in stalking abilities. Chamois have fantastic eyesight and hearing.

In combination with Tahr, this is one of our "Top Ten Hunts. This combination hunt is done in March to May and is for free ranging gold medal animals using either rifle or bow. This combination hunt is one of the most rewarding packages we offer and is a "must" hunt for the serious trophy hunter coming to New Zealand.

Minimum hunt time for this species is 5 days and 7 days if combined with a Tahr.

Access to our hunting areas is by 4WD vehicle or helicopter. When using a helicopter, we fly up into the high alpine basins frequented by these animals and set up camp. The hunting and the scenery is simply spectacular. Base camp is usually a high alpine hut or tent camp. Another option is to fly in and day hunt, then fly out in the evening. This method can save a lot of leg work and is highly successful. It is great for those hunters on time constraints or who have health and fitness problems.

FALLOW BUCKS:
Our Fallow Buck hunting is available on several properties. The largest (40,000 acres) boundaries Lake Wakatipu and is home to one of the best Fallow hers in the South Pacific. These properties continue to harvest quality trophies year after year. A great trophy to hunt in a combo with Red Stag, Tahr and Chamois

The best time to hunt these trophies is during the rut period - mid April to mid May. Other good times are when the bucks are in velvet and early spring when the bucks are looking for that new fresh grass. Over this period it is not uncommon to see a dozen or more bucks in one group and often way out on the open tussock mountain side. The really big stags though, tend to keep away by themselves and live near to the bush edges or way up on some secluded alpine basin.

During the rut period the bucks are extremely vocal and very east to find. They also tend to be very aggressive. Heaven help any stags straying into a master bucks territory. We tend to climb high to hunt these trophies. Find the top of a ridge and sit and glass all day. Once the animal if found we can plan the stalk.

Trophy wise hunters can expect heads to be well palmated with points, good guard tines and strong brow, bez, trez tines scoring in the sliver to early gold medal class.
