Hunting Africa-South Africa-General Information

Scroll down or click on the text links below for general information regarding hunting in South Africa.

AIRLINE TRANSPORTATION: We strongly suggest flying to South Africa with South African Airlines (SAA). We can recommend an agent in the USA, who would help you with your itinerary and ticketing. Please contact Ron Simmons by phone 1-540-459-2247 or email for more details. In addition to a valid Passport, South Africa does not require an entry visa.

ARRIVAL & DEPARTURE DAYS: Your day of arrival and departure are considered together as 1 non-hunting day at $150.00/person or ½ hunting day each, depending on your Outfitter and are charged accordingly.

FINALLY PAYMENT: All finances; trophy fees; daily rates and extras must be paid in full before departing from your safari.

FIREARMS: You should complete the SAP311 temporary firearm Import / Export permit application form in advance and bring it with you. It is important to note that the form must be completed in black ink and must remain unsigned until the document is finalized in front of the police official issuing the actual permit at the airport. The actual firearms will be physically inspected to ensure the serial numbers match those of the licenses and the application form. The only restrictions on ammunition are made by the airlines. Automatic weapons and camouflage is illegal in South Africa. Unless you will be hunting one of the Big 5, we recommend any caliber in the .270-.300 ranges. A good variable scope is essential.

HEALTH PRECAUTIONS: There are no health hazards in South Africa (including the Northern & Eastern Cape, Mpumalanga, Northern Province hunting areas) and therefore no inoculations are required. If you are going to visit Natal and the extreme North Eastern parts of the country, including Kruger National Park and adjacent areas, we recommend using malaria prophylactics. Sophisticated medical services are available in nearby towns and cities in the unlikely event of any emergency.

HUNTING LICENSES are obtained for you and are included in the trophy fee. Some Species require a CITES import and export permit.

HUNTING SEASON & CLIMATE: South Africa has no specific hunting season but from April to October is the best time. In general year round sunshine means that any time of the year is a good time to visit South Africa. Mid-winter occurs in June and July and mid-summer occurs in December and January. One can expect temperatures during May to September of 80º - 90ºF during the day and of 40º - 50ºF at night. Local time is GMT + 2 hours.

PREFERENCES: A detailed Questionnaire form will be sent to you on receipt of your deposit.

TOURS/SIGHTSEEING: Besides safari hunting, South Africa has many fantastic destinations to visit. If you are interested in touring or sightseeing before, during or after your hunting safari, we can suggest fine companies that offer personally guided tours by registered specialist tour guides. Opposed to offering you the normal basic tour operators package these companies specialize in eco tourism and tailor make your safari to suit your time and budget. Their personally selected guest houses and luxury lodges coupled with premier game viewing areas, interesting landmarks and diverse cultures will provide you with a "Window to Africa" and a suitcase full of memories to last a lifetime. Whether it's the Kruger National Park, Sun City, Private Game Reserves, golden beaches, magnificent mountain resorts, the wine country in the Cape, the Garden Route, cultural tours or the famous Rovers Rail or Blue Train to our beautiful mother city Cape Town they will provide you with an unforgettable experience - at an amazingly affordable price.

TRANSPORTATION is by hunting car, but depending on your Outfitter, in some instances we will suggest a private charter to save hunting time. Also depending on your Outfitter, transportation by vehicle between the provinces may be considered a hunting day and may incur a charge of $75.00/person (depending on the size of the group). Any client wishing to fly between areas is responsible for his own, the Professional Hunter and one skinner's air fare.

TRAVELING DAYS are considered full hunting days.

WING SHOOTING: Bird hunting packages are offered upon request. We have a wide variety of Game Birds. Shooting is done over well-trained dogs, driven birds and shooting over decoys. All birds are wild and in their natural habitat (i.e. No pen raised birds). We also offer some challenging sporting clay courses in wonderful surroundings.
