VIRGINIA QUAIL HUNTS
QUAIL HUNTING: What can possibly be more exciting than watching a dog working the wind and suddenly locking on point? We exert much effort in making our preserve as traditional a place to hunt as possible. With the shrinking quail population, our preserve is still a place where you can come hunt liberated birds with a possibility of getting into some wild coveys. They hunting is mostly done in thinned plantation pines. Every year the farm does controlled understudy burning which is beneficial to Quail and other wildlife. Much time is also spent planting lespodeza, millet, partridge pear, and other game foods. The farm has modern kennels which host mostly German Shorthair Pointers. However, you are more than welcome to bring your own dogs. All of our hunts are guided and include the use of our dogs or yours, and the cleaning and freezing of your quail. The preserve allows us to have a very long hunting season. It goes form the first of September until the end of April. What a great opportunity to get rid of those winter blahs when other hunting seasons are closed, or in early fall, to get a jump start on getting your dog into peak hunting form. |
THE HUNT:
On our three day hunts, after a large Southern breakfast, hunters, guides and dogs head to the woods for an exhilarating hunt filled with much pointing, flushing and shooting. We then break for a sit-down lunch that can't be beat. Perhaps after lunch, we may head to the sporting clay range to sharpen your shooting skills. Afterwards, hunters and dogs head back out to the woods for an afternoon of challenging wing shooting. If asked, the chef will prepare your quail into a mouthwatering Epicurean delight. The rest of the evening is spent boasting about fine dog work and impossible shots made, perhaps while sipping a drink by the fire.
BAG LIMITS & OPTIONS:
We offer everything from a half day hunt to a three day mini vacation. On a three day hunt, bring lots of ammunition because you also get to warm up on our challenging sporting clay course. Also bring lots of shells because the state has set a very liberal bag limit of 20 Quail a day per person average per hunting party. Depending upon the time of year, you may wish to do a combination hunt. In the winter, you may wish to add Duck Hunting. In the late spring, a morning of Gobbler Hunting followed by an afternoon of Quail Hunting is beyond compare.
CORPORATE QUAIL HUNTS:
For those of you looking for an alternative to business golf outings, we can offer a fun and unique opportunity to enjoy a social hunting experience. With our upscale lodging and facilities, the farm is a great place to hold a corporate meeting. With the sporting clay range and liberated quail, we have the ability to customize a hunt tailored to everyone's capabilitie
