Hunt Conditions
Arctic wolves thrive in abundant numbers in the area north and east of Yellowknife and Great Slave Lake.  The hunt is conducted from a comfortable permanent camp on Pellet Lake, which is only 2 miles from the NWT border in the new Canadian territory of Nunavut.  This enable our hunters to obtain the necessary license and tag for a wolf in each of the two territories.  While every hunter will have two tags, the second tag is a bonus.  The emphasis in this hunt is to get every hunter one wolf.  With safety as our biggest concern.  While every hunter will be assigned a guide, the guides will always travel in pairs.  This is a safety precaution as snowmobiles can break down at any time.  No one will leave camp without two snowmobiles.  Hunters will ride in large wooden sleds that are pulled by their guides (kamatak).  In the past there have been many complaints about the comfort of these sleds, and we are busy right now trying to add a shock absorption system to make the ride more comfortable.

Esker Lodge at Pellet Lake provides warm heated cabins, top notch equipment and experienced guides.  While Esker Lodge is a very comfortable camp, and it is our intention to use if for all our wolf hunts, the wolves we hunt are migratory.  Thus we will take our hunters to a location that is most likely to get everyone a wolf.  This however may result in hunting too far from the territorial border to make a second wolf an option.

Travel Schedule

In the morning you will be picked up at the hotel in Yellowknife and transported to the airport for your air charter to camp.  Flight time is approximately 90 minutes.  The following week you will be met upon your return to Yellowknife, and transferred to the wildlife office to pay trophy fees and obtain appropriate export/C.I.T.E.S. permits.  You will then be taken to the hotel.

Method of Hunting
The best way to hunt a predator is the same way he hunts his prey.  Wolves hunt by Spot and/or Track-ambush and/or Chase.  We hunt wolves the same way.

What is included in this hunt:

  • Transfer to ski-plane base and return.
  • Lodging in an all weather camp.
  • All meals while in camp.

    Important Notes:
All wildlife requires either a Nunavut or NWT export permit prior to removing the trophy from the territory.  These export permits are available from the applicable Wildlife Office and are issued free of charge when the trophy fee is paid.Because on of your wolves may be taken in Nunavut, it will be necessary to keep the hide in Nunavut until an export permit can be issued, we will then ship the hide to a destination of your choice.

For export out of Canada a wolf skin requires a C.I.T.E.S. permit, which can be issued by either the Nunavut or NWT wildlife officials.  Sometimes it is necessary to leave your trophy with a booking agent until a C.I.T.E.S. permit can be issued and this can take up to a month.  Upon receipt of the permit the hide will be shipped to a destination of your choice.
