Anticosti Island

Northeastern Whitetail Deer Hunts

Emerging from the prehistoric Champlain Sea, the 3,200 square-mile Anticosti Island spreads across the entry to the majestic Gulf of St. Lawrence.

The island remained uninhabited up until 1680 when Louis XIV gave it to Louis Jolliet in acknowledgment of his discovery of the Mississippi. Thereafter, several different initiatives to develop Anticosti island failed until the arrival of Henri Menier, the French chocolate magnate, who acquired it in 1895. Menier invested millions dollars in Anticosti island to turn it into a garden paradise. In 1926 the Island passed into the hands of the Anticosti Corporation which later became a subsidiary of Consolidated Bathurst. In 1974 the island was sold to the Quebec Government. It was in 1984 that a lease was obtained giving us exclusive hunting and fishing rights in the south-eastern sector of Anticosti Island.

Deer hunting on Anticosti Island.Over a 400-square-mile (1000-square-kilometre) area, we have developed the most prestigious hunting and fishing grounds in the province of Quebec at a cost of 12 million dollars. Our exclusive territory has an estimated population of fifteen thousand Northeastern White-tail deer!

November 2004 9 hunters staying at the Trophy Lodge took 8 big buck the FIRST DAY! The two in the above picture were taken by the same hunter that day, both being shot before 9:00am. Both make the Safari Club International Record Book.
